Welcome to the 1st Annual VFTH Children's Writing Competition 2011
Hello, my name is Yvonne Allen and I will be your host for the1st Annual VFTH Children's Writing Competition ~ Subject Wild Horses!! I am very excited to have you join me in this journey to learn about wild horses! It is my hope that the reason you are here with me today is that you are 1. an avid horse lover like myself or 2. inspired to learn more about this most noble animal the horse who in fact paved the way for us so to speak, to where it is we are today in our modern day world. This project has been brought to you from a horse lovers perspective and while we offer a good amount of science based information, Voice For The Horse does not claim to be a "wild horse expert". However we are very well versed and up to date on the situation for wild horses across America and have a credible Advisory Board that we refer to when needed.
One thing we would like for you kids to be thinking about as you study your curriculums and write your essays is "what do you think the horses would be telling you if they could speak"? The reason we ask you to do this is because horses do not have a voice, at least one that is audible and that we understand. You will meet many people during your studies, some are teachers, some are film makers and some are wild horse experts! All of these people are what we call "a voice for the horse" and this is what you will become too as you learn more about our horses. Therefore, this sets the Theme of this writing competition and it is this:

Meet Wild Horse Annie !!
The International Society for the Protection of Mustangs and Burros (ISPMB) is the oldest wild horse and burro organization in the United States and has been innovative in the field of wild horse and burro protection. ISPMB is pleased that they are able to sponsor an experience of a lifetime here at our ranch next year for the winner of the 1st Annual VFTH Children’s Writing Competition! Time frame TBA announced at a later date. Under the leadership of their first president, Velma Johnston, affectionately known as Wild Horse Annie, ISPMB and Annie were responsible for the passage of federal legistlation in 1971 that gave protection to wild horses and burros on public lands from death and harassment. Voice For The Horse would like to extend a personal thanks to the ISPMB Organization for our Grand Prize! We do ask that the lucky Grand Prize Winner will share their experience with other competitors of the writing competition and will look forward to working with the winner to create a special web page where you will be able to do so. Remember to take lots of pictures!!

More Prizes From Our Sponsor's !!
Rodeo Sweetheart Guitar
VFTH has recieved an amazing sponsorship prize from Country Music Singer and VFTH Sponsor Michael Oneill who is donating a lovely Rodeo Sweethearts Guitar with a full instructional book on how to start learning to play the guitar. It also makes a nice wall ornament too apparently! This prize will be awarded to the child that will go the extra mile that has a pony or horse (and for some many pony and horses I am sure!) that are willing to share with other kids what it is they do with them and why they love them so much! Voice For The Horse also includes children that do not have horses in their lives but share with us through a short You Tube video a speech of what they have learned about wild horses through our writing resources. All videos will be posted on the web site. We ask that the kids submit their videos with their essays. We hope to encourage children that have never been around horses that are competing in the writing competition, to continue to learn more about horses with hopes their parents will engage with them further in their learning and other creative art projects through Voice For The Horse in the future.
Templeton Thompson
To compliment this great little guitar which promises many wonderful moments, new VFTH Sponsor for the Children's Writing Competition, Templeton Thompson also has a few little goodies to add to this fabulous prize. It is a surprise and promises to be something you will treasure forever ... will give you a clue ... it relates to horses !! Thanks to both Templeton and Michael for joining forces with VFTH as it is people like you that help US make the difference. VFTH hopes to have an event coming up in the near future where it will bring many of us together to share our love for horses, at a venue where the music will be amazing, the people superb and perhaps a few equines to set the stage (pardon the pun !!). You will not want to miss this event!! We will keep you posted !!
VFTH wishes the Writing Competitors the best of luck and the most important thing we want for you to experience during your studies is that it is fun and intriguing for you to learn about Wild Horses~ How Cool Is This !!
